An apparatus is disclosed for cutting an end of a belt and for clinching belt fasteners to the cut belt end. The apparatus includes a clamp (14) for clamping the belt and a knife carriage (566) driven across the belt to cut the belt end with a knife on Io the carriage. A line of belt fasteners (17) mounted in a comb are then pressed against the belt by rollers (44, 46) which are mounted on a roller carriage (12) for travel across the line of belt fasteners. Preferably, a single, detachable, manual driver or handle (590) is used to drive the knife carriage via drive ends (604) and the roller carriage via drive shaft (42).
