Cancer marker and monoclonal antibodies specific therefor.

Monoclonal antibodies specific for a cancer marker, as well as hybridoma cell lines producing such antibodies; a method of purifying the marker to an extent sufficient to use the marker for the production of such monoclonal antibodies; the purified marker itself; monoclonal antibodies prepared using the purified marker; and an assay for the marker using the monoclonal antibodies. The marker is one that: (1) exhibits RNA-releasing activity; (2) is detectable in the serum of substantially all patients having either disseminated or localized tumors by means of an assay for such RNA-releasing activity, and (3) exhibits a molecular weight of on the order of 70 kDa.
