PURPOSE:To produce a useful metabolite while continuously releasing the metabolite out of tissue without exerting a bad influence on viability of cell by culturing plant tissue or culture cell in a specific medium. CONSTITUTION:Tissue or culture cell of useful metabolite producing plant (e.g. Vinca major L. to produce vincalkaloid) is cultured in a liquid medium containing a polyvinyl alcohol to produce a useful metabolite produced by tissue or culture cell without damaging live activity of cell while continuously releasing the metabolite out of the tissue. A polyvinyl alcohol having 100-100,000, preferably 200-5,000 average molecular weight and 50-100mol%, preferably 70-100mol% saponification degree is used as the polyvinyl alcohol and the concen tration in the medium is usually 0.001-20W/V%, preferably 0.005-10W/V%. |
