PURPOSE:To provide the subject composite material having a high strength and a linear expansion coefficient and capable of being connected to a ceramic to utilize as a heat resistant structural material by containing carbon fibers and inorganic fibers different from the carbon fibers and controlling the orientation direction of each carbon fiber at a specific angle. CONSTITUTION:Reinforcing carbon fibers and inorganic fibers (e.g. silicon carbide fibers) different from the carbon fibers are compounded with a carbon matrix, and 95-100% of the carbon fibers are oriented at an average orientation angle of 0-70 deg. to provide a carbon composite material reinforced with the carbon fibers and the inorganic fibers. Further preferably, the average orientation direction and the average orientation direction of the inorganic fibers are adjusted so as to mutually form an angle of 30-70 deg., thereby permitting to give anisotropy to the linear expansion coefficient of the composite material, to form a face having a high linear expansion coefficient and further to control the linear expansion coefficient by the control of the amounts and orientation directions of the carbon fibers and inorganic fibers, etc. |
