PRODUCTION OF ACID NITRIDE CERAMIC FIBER

PURPOSE:To obtain the title fiber having excellent strength, modulus and corrosion resistance by blending a sol obtained by hydrolyzing a silicon alkoxide and aluminum alkoxide with an organic high polymer leaving carbon by calcination under non-oxidizing atmosphere and spinning and burning the blend. CONSTITUTION:A fiber obtained by blending a sol obtained by hydrolyzing a silicon alkoxide and aluminum alkoxide (preferably hydrolyzing silicon alkoxide under strongly acidic catalyst, reacting aluminum alkoxide therewith and further hydrolyzing the resultant reaction product) with an organic high polymer (e.g. butyl cellulose) leaving carbon by calcination in a nonoxidizing atmosphere, controlling viscosity of the blend to >= 10 poise and spinning the viscosity-controlled blend is burned in nitrogen and/or ammonia stream to readily provide the aimed fiber suitable for fiber-reinforced plastic, etc.
