PURPOSE:To obtain the title superconductor improved in superconductivity, esp. critical current density by treating a Y-excess Y-Ba-Cu oxide (YBCO) and converting an electrical insulating Ba-Cu oxide formed around the YBCO crystal to a superconductive phase. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula YBaaCubOc ((a) is 2-6; (b) is 3-15; (c) is 6-25) is sintered at 900-1000 deg.C to effect growth of the crystal grains 1 of a YBCO superconductor. This crystal grain group is mixed with Y2O3, Y2Cu2O5 and Y2BaCuO5 each containing an excess amount of Y. Thence, the mixture is oriented by a mechanical treatment. The resulting mixture is then sintered and annealed to convert an electrical insulating Ba-Cu oxide layer 2 formed around the crystal grains 1 to a superconductive phase. |
