PURPOSE:To obtain the title fiber excellent in persistence by sulfonation of a NHCO linkage-carrying fiber surface, converting the chemical structure of the surface to alkali salt and carrying a salt of polyacrylic acid thereon followed by treatment with a specified amount of a mixture of a polyvalent metal compound and quaternary ammonium salt. CONSTITUTION:The surface of fiber having NHCO linkage in the molecular chain (e.g. wool, polyamide fiber) is treated with a strong acid and sulfonated, and then treated with an aqueous alkaline solution to form an alkali salt of said strong acid. Thence, sodium polyacrylate is carried on the resultant surface (or, this surface is treated with a strong alkali followed by carrying the sodium polyacrylate on the resultant surface) followed by treatment with a solution of a polyvalent metal compound (e.g. of zinc, silver, copper, aluminum) at an equivalent rate, based on the alkali salt of said surface, of 1-95% or its mixture with a quaternary ammonium salt at an equivalent rate, based on said compound, of 5-95% to effect formation of a quaternary ammonium salt-added metal complex on part of the fiber surface, thus giving the objective fiber excellent in resistance to washing and good in persistence. |
