The novel compound 5,6,7,8-tetrabromo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-naphthalene (tetrabromotetralin) of the formula: <IMAGE> was prepared using 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-naphthalene as the starting compound. Tetrabromotetralin was employed to prepare flame-retardant plastic compositions.
