<p>NEW MATERIAL:An N-phenyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalimide derivative of formula I (R1 is H, methyl or methoxyl; R2 is cyano or aminocarbonyl of formula II; R3 and R4 are H or methoxyl). EXAMPLE:N-( 4-Chloro-2-fluoro- 5 -dimethylaminocarbonylmethoxyphenyl )-3,4,5,6- tetrahydrophthalimide. USE:A herbicide having a powerful herbicidal activity against morning glory, Indian mallow, etc. which are strong injurious weeds in fields of soybeans, cottons or corns, fat hen, bird's-eye, etc. in wheat fields and barnyard grass and broad-leaved weeds in paddy fields, etc. without the phytotoxicity to crops. PROCESS:N-( 4-Chloro-2-fluoro-5-hydroxyphenyl )-3, 4, 5, 6-tetrahydrophthalimide is reacted with a halide of formula III (X is Cl or Br) in the presence of a base to give the compound of formula I .</p> |
