摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To make it possible to judge whether an object is a vehicle or not quickly and assuredly by recognizing the body which is located in the direction that is appoximately perpendiculate to the advancing direction of own vehicle and has the specified width as a vehicle based on the width and the angle of the body at the forward side. CONSTITUTION:Laser light which is emitted from a transmitting part 12 and swept at an angle psi is received with a receiving part 14 as the reflected light in the range of the angle psi. The wavelengths other than the reflected light are cut. The signal is outputted as an electric signal. Meanwhile, a distance information to a reflecting body at a forward side which is computed in a distance-information operating means 20 is stored in a memory 22 together with a signal 16 at a sweeping position. In a candidate-vehicle identifying part 30, the changing rate of a distance Y with respect to lateral length Y in the longitudinal direction of the body, i.e. the angle of the reflecting body with respect to the advancing direction of own vehicle, is obtained based on the distance and the sweeping angle psi. The candidate vehicle is judged based on the width of the body stored in a local memory 42. The following vehicle is identified in a following-vehicle identifying part 40 based on said data and the data from the main memory 22 with respect to the relative speed, the speed of own vehicle, the steering angle of own vehicle and the estimated value of the motion of own vehicle. Since the judgement is performed based on the result of one measurement with a radar 10, the processing can be performed simply and quickly.</p>
