PURPOSE:To economically mass-produce a spherical cellulose by pretreating a cellulosic material in a specific way, adjusting the concn. of the resulting suspension, pulverizing the suspension with a wet pulverizer using a medium for stirring, and spray-drying the suspension. CONSTITUTION:A cellulosic material, e.g. wood pulp or linter, is pretreated by one or a combination of two or more treatments selected from the group consisting of acid hydrolysis, alkali hydrolysis, enzyme decomposition, steam explosion decomposition, and steaming. The concn. of the resulting suspension is adjusted to 1.0-25% by increasing or decreasing the amount of the suspension medium. Then, pref. after subjected to a high pressure homogenizing or colloid mill treatment, the suspension is introduced into a wet pulverizer using a medium for stirring. In the pulverizer a stirrer 3 running at a high speed (peripheral speed: 5-18m/sec) is equipped in a container 2, where the suspension is forcibly stirred with ceramic or metal beads (diameter: 0.3-6mm) and thus pulverized into particles of a mean diameter of 2mu or lower. The fine particles are separated and spray-dried to give spherical cellulose particles. |
