The fiber jacket (7), lying between the inner jacket (3) and the outer jacket (7) of an optical cable (1) is blown upon with a nozzle (10) and by this means bent away to one side. The fiber jacket can thus be grasped in a clamping device (11) and separated with a separating device (9). The deflection of the fiber jacket makes possible an effective separation without consideration of the delicate optical fibre (2). (Figure 3)
