PURPOSE:To produce metallic fibers stably by producing the arc between a blank wire of the metal to be melted and a torch, thereby melting the blank wire and allowing the same to droop onto the projecting lines of the outside surface of a rotating disc and to contact with the same. CONSTITUTION:A disc 1 has projecting lines 2 on the outside surface thereof, and while it is cooled from the inside by the cooling water supplied through a cooling water pipe 3, it rotates in an arrow direction. A blank wire 4 straightened of its shape with straightening rolls 5 is supplied onto the disc 1. A torch 6 made of W or the like for supplying an inert gas such as Ar through a pipe 8 and a wall earth 7 enclosing the circumference of a copper plate 10 with refractories 11 are provided in the positions on both sides of the supply end 4a at the leading end of the wire 4, and the negative electrode of a melting electric power source 9 is connected to the torch 6 and the positive electrode to the earth 7 and the wire 4. The wire 4 is melted by the arc formed between the torch 6 and the end 4a, and is made into fibers 13 by the projecting lines 2. When the supply of the wire 4 is not smooth, the arc transfers from the torch 6 to the earth 7, and this obviates the annihilation of the arc. |
