This device for depiling and gripping, one by one, documents (2a) arranged in a pile (2) in a stand-by station (1), including a lower opening (3) for extracting the documents, possesses: - a gripper having suckers (6, 7) which is mounted to as to move beneath the stand-by station (1) between a first position, in which the suckers (7) are active and in contact with the last document (2a) of the pile (2) through the extraction opening (3), and a second position, in which the suckers (7) are inactive and moved downwards away from the opening (3); - a pair of superposed pinching (gripping) rollers (19, 20) mounted so as to rotate on themselves, in a conjugate manner, about spindles (axes) (14, 15) perpendicular to the plane of movement of the gripper (6, 7) having suckers and supported by a support (12a, 12b) which can move between a first position, moved away laterally from the opening (3), and a second position beneath this extraction opening (3); - and means (9, 10, 11, 21, 22) for moving, in a synchronised and cyclic manner, the gripper having suckers (6, 7) and the support (12a, 12b) of the pinching rollers (19, 20) between their two positions so that the first and second positions of these elements are reached substantially at the same time. <IMAGE>
