摘要 PURPOSE:To accurately correct the initial set angle error of an azimuth sensor by correcting the initial set angle error of the azimuth sensor according to the absolute travel azimuth of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION:The output side of a position detecting device 5 is connected to a data processor 61 including an absolute travel azimuth arithmetic unit 62 and a GPS data storage device 63, a self-sustaining type data storage device 64, a map data storage device 7, and a display device 8 are connected to the data processing part 61. Assuming that the current position of the vehicle is P1(X1, Y1), it is decided whether the vehicle travels straight according to the deviation angle of the azimuth sensor 2 as an angular speed sensor and when it is decided that the vehicle travels straight, a PDOP value corresponding to the P1(X1, Y1) is extracted by proper arithmetic and this value is used as a weight coefficient to calculate the absolute travel direction of the vehicle by the arithmetic unit 62 in the data processor 61. Then every time the current position of the vehicle based upon the GPS position measurement is indicated, the initial set error of the azimuth sensor 2 is properly corrected.
