The subject of the invention is an apparatus for measuring the developed width of the ungual plate. The apparatus of the slide calliper (gauge) type with vernier, composed of a graduated rule (1) and two square pieces (2, 3), one of which is fixed and the other slides on the rule (1) to allow evaluation of the thickness of the object clamped between these two square pieces (2, 3), is characterised in that each end (4, 5) of the two squares (2, 3) is provided with a guide means (6, 7) for a wire (8), the two guide means (6, 7) being cylindrical tubes. The wire (8) is slidingly mounted in the said tubes (6, 7), one end of the said wire (8) including a blocking knot, the other end of the wire (8) including an additional length of wire, so as to allow separation of the two square pieces (2, 3). On the side of the free end of the wire (8), the square (2) includes, in proximity to the corresponding tube (6), a means for blocking the wire (8).
