The present invention is directed to heterocyclic oxy-phenoxyacetic acid derivatives of the formula: wherein R is a pyridyl or quinoxalinyl group optionally bearing thereon not more than two substituents chosen from halogen and halo(lower)alkyl; R1 and R2 are each hydrogen or lower alkyl; and R3 is -NR4R5, -NHR6 or -OR7 (in which R4 and R5 are each hydrogen or lower alkyl or, when taken together with the adjacent nitrogen atom, represent a saturated nitrogen-containing 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic group optionally having one additional ring hetero atom chosen from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur, which may bear thereon not more than two lower alkyl groups; R6 is lower cycloalkyl, substituted or unsubstituted aryl, or a saturated or unsaturated 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic group having at least one ring hetero atom chosen from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur or a group of the formula: -NR8R9 (in which R8 and R9 are each hydrogen or lower alkyl or, when taken together, represent a lower alkylidene group); and R7 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, substituted or unsubstituted aryl(lower)alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted aryloxy (lower)alkyl, halo(lower)alkyl, hydroxy(lower)alkyl or lower alkoxy(lower)alkyl), or salts thereof. These derivatives are useful as herbicides.
