Ventilator intended to provide a passage of air of substantially constant flow rate through an opening formed in a piece of joinery, for example a door or window, characterised in that it consists of a plurality of identical rigid thin strips (8) mounted so that they are free side by side, and so that they can pivot about a horizontal axis parallel to the opening surface (4) and located inside a casing (1) covering the opening and equipped with an orifice (5) emerging to the outside, the thin strips (8) being of such a shape and located in such a manner that under the action of the stream of air penetrating through the orifice (5) in the casing and moving towards the opening (4) formed in the joinery article, they become interposed, through pivoting, on the passage of this stream and limit its flow rate in a fashion which can be automatically adjusted depending on the pressure of air of the stream. <IMAGE>
