<p>PURPOSE:To sufficiently develop the protection performance for a passenger by installing an upward shift suppressing means for the knee of a driver which contacts a knee protector when a vehicle collides, inside a shelf-shaped projection member which is positioned between the knee protector and an air bag unit. CONSTITUTION:When a vehicle collides, an air bag unit 12 operates, and an air bag 16 expands, and protects the upper half body of a passenger on an assistant driver's seat which shifts inertially forward. At the same time, the knee of the lower half body of the passenger which inertially shifts forward contacts a protector plate 34 and shifts forward, smashing an S-shaped member 36. In this case, inside the shelf-shaped projection part 10a of an inner panel 10 over the knee protector 14, an arcuate honeycomb member 38 is installed. Then, the knee which shifts upward from the front part is received by a lower surface plate 44 of the arcuate honeycomb member 38. Further, the reaction force which acts on the knee from the lower surface plate 44 is offset by the softening action due to the smashing of a honeycomb core 40, and the knee is protected.</p> |
