The method relates to a process and equipment for packaging articles in an air tight shell where a thermoplastic film is positioned over a preformed shell and drawn down over the article such that it conforms to the contours. The shell is initially mfrd. with a lower edge and an upper edge which is level with or higher than the packaged item. After sealing the film around the lower edge, the upper edge is removed by shearing at the transition point between the central shell area and the upper edge. The packaged, sealed items are clearly visible over the lower shell edge. USE/ADVANTAGE - Packaging articles partic. foodstuffs in a presentable shell. Equipment has a simple design and is safe in use.
