PURPOSE:To obtain the title catalyst which has excellent catalytic activity, can give a copolymer which need not be deashed and does not have a risk of toxicity by constituting it of a specified solid catalyst component, a toluic ester compound and an organoaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:This catalyst is constituted of a solid catalyst component obtained by washing a solid substance obtained by suspending a dialkoxymagnesium (e.g. diethoxymagnesium) in a normally liquid aromatic hydrocarbon (e.g. toluene), bringing the solution into contact with an aromatic carboxylic acid monoester (e.g. ethyl benzoate) in an amount to give a weight ratio to the dialkoxymagnesium of 1/10-1/2 and dimethylpolysiloxane (of a viscosity of 10-50cSt at 25 deg.C) in an amount to give a weight ratio to the dialkoxymagnesium of 1/40-1/4 and reacting the product of contact with a titanium halide (e.g. TiCl4) at 80-135 deg.C with a normally liquid aromatic hydrocarbon at 80 deg.C or above and reacting the product of washing with a titanium halide at 80-135 deg.C in the presence of a normally liquid aromatic hydrocarbon, a toluic ester compound of the formula: C6H4(CH3) (COOR) (wherein R is an alkyl) and an organoaluminum compound (e.g. triisobutylaluminum). |
