PURPOSE:To enable both excellent gradational images and high-density images, e.g. characters or symbols, to be formed simultaneously and easily, by composing a base sheet of a polyester film treated for easy adhesion, at least on the side on which a thermal transfer layer is to be provided. CONSTITUTION:Polyester film treated for easy adhesion is used as a base sheet, whereby a thermal transfer sheet can be obtained which is capable of formation of both clear gradational images and clear characters or other similar images. The treated polyester film is a polyester film provided with an extremely thin, uniform adhesive layer thereon. The adhesive layer is formed, for example, by preparing an aqueous dispersion or organic solvent solution of a heat- curable, catalytically curable, ionizing radiation-curable or other type of cross- linkable polyurethane resin, acrylic resin or the like, applying the resultant coating liquid to the film, for example by blade coating, and drying the coating liquid thus applied. The thickness of the adhesive layer is 0.001 to 1 mum. |
