The brush is of the type comprising two parts 1 and 4, one, 1, of which includes a rod (shank) 2 which carries bristles 3 constituting the actual brush, it being possible for these two parts 1 and 4 to occupy two extreme relative positions, in one of which positions they are substantially in the extension of one another, the other part 4 then constituting a gripping handle and in the other of which positions the part 1 which carries the bristles 3 is folded over towards the other part 4. It is characterised in that means 10-6-12 are provided for immobilising the two parts 1 and 4 with respect to one another, especially when they are in the extension of one another. According to a particular embodiment, the other part 4 is hollow and, in the other extreme relative position the part 1 which carries the bristles 3 is placed inside the hollow part 4 which then constitutes a sheath. This structure is particularly well suited to the production of a portable (travelling) toothbrush. <IMAGE>
