A knitting machine, having at least one needle bed, has loop formation plates fixed in between the needles, which have a front slope parallel to, and a reverse slope at right angles to the direction of the product. ADVANTAGE - The loops can be drawn through formed loops at a point which creates the least friction, so that delicate yarn can be knitted faster. The tension on the yarn is improved, and the loops do not come out of the needles before formation. Pref. the needle bed on a flat knitting machine has latch needles and between the needles, fixed to the bed, are loop formation plates, with the front slope parallel to the direction of the finished product. There is a curve before the plate angled back to the bed. Through the series of plates is a cross wire, and by means of an adjustment the position may be varied, so that the last loop in the product suspends from a needle with different relationship between, whereby the amount of friction on the loop by new yarn is reduced.
