The tea or coffee maker has a freshwater container (14) coupled to a through-flow water heater (17) with a riser pipe (20) leading to a filter unit (31) containing the tea or ground coffee, positioned above a reception cup (22). The filter unit (31) comprises a carousel with a number of filter compartments, rotated into the working position, each containing the correct amount of tea or coffee for a single cup. The freshwater container (14) is coupled to a dosing space (40) containing the required water volume for a single cup via a valve (42), controlled by an electromagnet (41) which is operated for a timed duration, sufficient for filling of the dosing space (40) and the riser pipe (20).
