The invention concerns a process and device for controlling a pulsed laser used for cutting metal. The mechanical shock wave which occurs during cutting, or the acoustic wave produced, is picked up by a pressure sensor, and the output from the pressure sensor is used as the input signal for a control circuit which controls the laser radiation.
