METHOD AND DEVICE FOR AUTOMATIC CHARACTER READING

PURPOSE:To read accurately characters, by shifting the focus position of a blurred picture on a document to take in this picture and patterning a character string of the blurred picture and scanning this pattern to recognize the position and the length of the character string and reading characters in the character string on a basis of these recognized results. CONSTITUTION:The focus position for a business form or document 1 is shifted to take a blurred picture of the document 1 into a blurred picture generating part 3 by an image pickup part 2, and a character string of the picture is patterned. The position and the length of the character string of this patterned blurred picture are recognized in a character string recognizing part 4 by scanning. These recognized position and length of the character string are supplied to a read head 6 of a read head driving part 9 and are given to a character cutting part 7. Characters in the character string are recognized accurately in accordance with recognition results of the recognizing part 4 by a character recognizing part 8.
