The ignition system includes an ignition spark transmitter(7), and an ignition transformer(8) for the prodn. of an ignition spark at the spark electrodes(I,II) for the removal of the soot layer deposited on the ignition electrodes(I,II). The insulators(2,3) act as shunt resistances(NSI,RNSII) with variable ohmic resistance values. The ignition voltage is applied at the respective ignition electrodes during the working pause of the burner. The ignition voltage is applied alternately at the ignition electrodes(I,II). A separate generator(14,15) is connected at the low voltage side(10') of the ignition transforme(8') for each of the ignition electrodes(I,II). ADVANTAGE - Overcomes difficulties experience due to interference caused by soot build-up, with out detracting from combustion operation of burner.
