A method and apparatus for potabilization of salt water. A method and apparatus for potabilization of salt water, according to which sea water is separated by atomization, by mixing with compressed air in droplets with a maximum diameter of 3 microns, which are projected at a speed close to that of sound and injected into an ambient air entrainment zone, where the droplets lose the water by evaporation at a short distance from the point of ejection, causing the salt particles to be completely precipitated out of solution. The water vapour produced is condensed, forming a fresh water suspension in a chamber until the atmosphere therein is close to saturation, at which time the fresh water suspension is evacuated from the ambient space to compartments which have been prepared for receiving the droplets and where the suspension is precipitated in order to recover the resultant fresh water flow. The entire process is performed at ambient temperature. <IMAGE>
