PURPOSE:To measure bit errors at high speed under the same condition by periodically shifting the position of random data each time the data are recorded, repeatedly recording the data in the prescribed area of a recording area and detecting the bit errors by using the reproducing data under the same condition. CONSTITUTION:A random number generating part 11 of a computer 4 generates the random data and stores the data in a memory 10 and a position designating part 14 designates the position of the random data. The computer 4 sends a command and the data to a controller 3 and a control CPU 5 stores the data in a memory 6, demodulates the data by a modulation / demodulation part 8 and outputs then as recording signals. A drive device 2 records the signals in the prescribed area of a recording medium 1. When recording reaches the prescribed number of times, the computer 4 sends out the command, inputs data reproduced from the medium 1 to the memory 10 and compares the data with recorded data. Thus, the bit errors caused by repeated recording can be measured at high speed under the same condition. |
