PURPOSE:To easily form required wall thickness by forming a groove along a peripheral wall at the top part of the peripheral wall in the opening part of a cell, and also making the width of the peripheral wall in a little lower part from the bottom of the groove slightly larger than the width of the bottom part of the peripheral wall in the opening part of the cell in the rear surface, and making the width of the peripheral wall gradually smaller as the peripheral wall progresses to the direction of the bottom part and superposing the cells. CONSTITUTION:The width (b) of the bottom part of a peripheral wall in the opening part of a cell 1 in the rear surface of a honeycomb structural body A is made equal to the width (c) of a groove 3 or made slightly smaller than it. This width (b) is made equal to the width (c) or made slightly smaller than that in the degree capable of inserting the bottom part of the peripheral wall 2 into the groove 3. Further the width (a) of the peripheral wall 2 in a little lower part from the bottom of the groove 3 is made slightly larger than the width (b) of the bottom part and the width of the peripheral wall is made gradually small as the peripheral wall progresses to the direction of the bottom part in order to easily draw out the peripheral wall 2 from a mold. Distance (d) to the bottom of the peripheral wall 2 from the bottom of the groove 3 is regulated to <=100mn. Required wall thickness can be formed by successively superposing a plurality of pieces of cells so that the bottom part of the peripheral wall 2 in the opening part of the cell in the rear surface is inserted into the groove 3 of the upper surface.
