In a smoking article with a rod of smoking material enclosed in a casing, the circumference of the rod is not more than 20 mm, and the casing consists of a material with a cpd. which reduces the sec. stream. The material is such that there is a redn. of at least 30% in the particulate matter in the sec. smoke stream, on a water-and nicotine-free basis, compared with a control rod with the usual cigarette circumference with the usual cigarette paper.
