CONSTITUTION: A microcomputer 50 decides a operation mode by inputting key data from sensor or key matrix part 58 or a remote receiver 60. In the case of synchronous signal auto-detection mode, the recorded medium is reproduced at a normal speed while the microcomputer 50 detects whether or not a circuit part 56 outputs a synchronous signal of the recorded medium and detects the signal, namely, the zone where video and speech are recorded in the medium. When the synchronous signal is not detected, the medium is reproduced at a high speed to be checked with whether or not the signal is detected, and if the signal is detected, the speed is reduced to the normal speed, but if the signal is not detected for a certain period of time, the power source is turned off. As a result, this shortens a blank time and reduces viewer's boredom feeling.</p>
