SINTERED ALLOY FOR OIL-RETAINING BEARING AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SINTERED ALLOY

A sintered alloy suitable as a material for an oil-retaining bearing is characterized in that the sintered alloy: is produced by sintering a green compact in which the entire peripheral surface of each of particles of iron is coated with non-ferrous metals; essentially consists of 45 - 82% by weight of the iron and predetermined percentages by weight of the non-ferrous metals; and has an open porosity ranging from 15% by volume to 28% by volume. The sintered alloy preferably contains 0.3 - 4.5% by weight of at least one of solid lubricants including graphite or molybdenum disulfide. The non-ferrous metals are copper or copper-base alloys.
