摘要 PURPOSE:To improve mode convertion efficiency by yielding grown induced optically double refraction in an originally, optically isotropic garnet film and making DELTAbeta zero by causing the garnet film to contain bismuth ion. CONSTITUTION:In a garnet film containing bismuth ion such as (GdLuBi)3 (FeGa)5O12 film, a large amount of optically double refraction yields besides an optically double refraction induced by distortion due to difference of lattice constants between a substrate and a film and an amount of the double refraction becomes nrt. angle>n//. This allows the difference DELTAbeta of propagation phase constants per unit length between a TE mode and a TM mode to be made zero and the conversion efficiency between the TE mode and the TM mode to be made 100%. Furthermore, since grown induced optically double refraction can be easily varied by heat treatment conditions, it is not always necessary to prescribed the condition DELTAbeta=0 stringently when a garnet film grows, and, therefore, extensive film forming conditions can be selected.
