The novel method according to the invention consists in introducing water into the pore system of the raw fibre material - wood, straw, other plant types, grasses, blades, roots - or using a raw fibre material which is so fresh that it still contains liquid water in its pore system, and then freezing the raw material so that the water turns to ice. The frozen mass is then worked mechanically, for example in a crushing mill, so that it is broken up into fibre bundles and fibres, whereupon the mass is heated at least to such an extent that the ice melts, and finally the heated mass is worked mechanically, for example in a crushing mill, so that the fibre bundles are broken up into individual fibres and fibre fragments. After screening, the accepted portion is used for producing paper, while the rejected portion is returned for renewed working. By carrying out the hot working in the presence of chemicals - mainly sulphites or alkalis - it is also possible to produce chemico-mechanical pulp. |
