The lavitory cistern (1) with a side entry (9) for water, controlled by an inlet valve (7) connected to a float (10) at an upper level, has a manually operated flushing valve (12,13,14) for discharge from a bottom outlet (3) in conventional manner. Also connected to the outlet is a flushing water limiting tube with two parallel vertical branches (15,16), one (15) terminating above water level (H). The other branch has holes (166) below the water level, at a lower level (h). Inside this branch, which terminates, (16) near the top of the cistern is a valve (18) with a spring (19) above, and a valve disc (186) at the bottom, resting on a seating (162) below the holes. This valve is opened by a manually operated plunger projecting from the cistern giving a reduced flushing water flow. ADVANTAGE - The device saves water where there is a water shortage.
