PURPOSE: To replace a lamp easily and conveniently, by providing a coil holding means, supporting an excitation coil and connected toa radio frequency power source so as to supply a fill with radio frequency power. CONSTITUTION: In a lamp 8 having a glass-like, light transmitting, elongated, outside envelope 10 surrounding an arc tube 12 made of a light transmitting material, the envelope 10 has an exhaust end 14 for letting gas out of or into a space between the arc tube 12 and the envelope 10. Also it has a hold cap 16 desirably made of metal for sealing the exhaust end and holding the lamp. Further, the envelope 10 has a base 18 to be inserted in a socket of the type corresponding to a lighting system. Thereby, the lamp can be replaced easily and conveniently. |
