PURPOSE:To reduce the generation of a shift shock by a method wherein when production of a torque phase is detected, a lokup device is brought into a direct coupling state, and when completion of the torque phase is detected, the lockup device is brought into a state to separate an engine. CONSTITUTION:When, in a state in which a lockup device (c) is separated from an engine, up shift is made on an automatic transmission, when production of a torque phase of a friction element (a) is detected by a detecting means (e), a lockup control means (g) brings a lockup device (c) into an engine direct coupling state, and an output from an engine (b) is added to output torque of a fluid transmission device (d) to output. Meanwhile, when completion of the torque phase is detected by a detecting means (f), the lockup device (c) is brought into a state to separate an engine again. In this case, a slip occurs to the fluid transmission device (d) to temporarily reduce output torque. This constitution reduces the generation of draw torque and the generation of a loose turtle, and reduce the generation of a shift shock during up shift. |
