Filter cap for purifying the exhaust gaes of internal combustion engines, mainly for motor vehicles The invention relates to a filter cap forpurifying the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines, mainly for motor vehicles having a house connectible with the engine's exhaust pipe provided with inlet and outlet, a first perforated cover surrounding the flue in communication with the the inlet and a second perforated cover spaced from the first one are arranged in the house, where heat resistant filter pad is between the covers, and the outlet is formed on the side of the second perforated cover opposite the filter pad. Main feature o the invention is that the flue is formed as expansion chamber (15) the cross section of which is many times preferably at least three times greater than the inside flow cross section of the exhaust pipe, furthermore, perforation of the side of the second perforated cover (13) opposite the filter pad (14) forms at least in part directly the outlet (17) of filter cap (1).
