PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of a catalyst and shorten time of reduction operation by arranging a temperature sensor in a catalyst layer in a methanol reforming reaction tube and feeding methanol while controlling exothermic temperature of catalyst layer based on the resultant detected temperature. CONSTITUTION:An external heat medium is allowed to flow into a methanol reformer 2 and a reforming catalyst 3 is preheated to 170-180 deg.C by heating a reforming reaction tube 4. Then methanol pump 6 and pure water pump 9 are actuated and methanol vapor vaporized by a methanol evaporator 5 is introduced into the reaction tube 4 together with steam obtained by a steam generator 8, Then methanol is reacted with the catalyst 3 and the catalyst 3 is successively reduced with the resultant H2. Then methanol pump 6 is controlled in the speed by a controlling part 12 based on detected temperature of a temperature sensor 11 arranged in each area I-V in the reaction tube 4 and catalyst reduction by methanol reformer is carried out while controlling methanol feed amount in such range that exothermic temperature accompanying the above-mentioned reduction reaction does not exceed upper limit temperature (about 220 deg.C) of the catalyst 3. |
