<p>PURPOSE:To execute the variable length coding of an image whose total code data volume is determined by controlling variable length-coded code data in each frequency area, selecting the area of code data in a prescribed range and reconstituting the code data. CONSTITUTION:An image is divided 1 into rectangular blocks and an one- dimensional array is constituted by scanning a conversion coefficient in each block successively from the area of the lower frequency to execute variable length coding. The coding processing is executed successively from the area (i) to the area N and then over the whole blocks of the image, and simultaneously the coded data volumes of respective area units are successively added to find out the total coded data volume. When it is defined that the total coded value up to the area (k) is the sum of the total coded data values of respective areas, the value of (k) is determined so that the total coded value up to the area (k) does not exceeds a previously determined coded data volume, the coded data of respective areas 1 to k are extracted from a coded data buffer by means of synchronizing codes and reconstituting as coded data in which high frequency area more than the area (k+1) in the one-dimensional array is set up to zero by a coded data reconstitution part 9.</p> |
