1,038,192. Electric cables. IRC Inc. April 9, 1963 [April 17, 1962], No. 14111/63. Heading H1A. Layers of insulation of a flat cable having parallel conductors are bonded together through holes of a non-adhering separator so that these layers may easily be pulled apart. As shown in Figure 1, two insulated cables 12a, 12b each of which consists of a series of spaced parallel metallic conductors sandwiched between two bonded layers of insulation, are spaced apart by a separator 14 which does not adhere to the insulation and which has a plurality of holes enabling the cables to be partially bonded together. In another embodiment, to facilitate stripping the insulation of a flat multi-conductor cable, longitudinally spaced (or continuous) separating strips are arranged adjacent the conductors. The neighbouring layers of insulation are bonded together through the holes in the separating strips. The insulation may be of polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride or polytrifluorochloroethylene and the separator may be made of " Mylar " (Registered Trade Mark), polytrifluorochloroethylene or polytetrafluoroethylene. |
