A power plant having a number of thrustproducing engines which discharge exhaust fluid against a common expansion member which is shaped so that the exhaust fluid expands against it to produce thrust is characterized in that expansion surfaces are provided between adjacent engines and extend from the common expansion member, the expansion surfaces being positioned and shaped so that the exhaust fluid from each engine expands against the adjacent surfaces to produce thrust. The power plant shown comprises thrust producing engines 16, which are preferably rocket engines each including a combustion chamber section and a thrust nozzle section, located around a plug 14 and preferably equally spaced from each other and from the axis 12 of the plant. The plug 14 is frustoconical (or a complete cone or other geometric variation thereof) to provide a surface along which the combustion gases from the engines 16 expand to produce thrust. To produce additional thrust fairings 40 which taper, preferably to a point, to provide additional surfaces along which combustion gases can expand, are provided between adjacent engines 16. The fairings 40 blend smoothly with the plug 14 along lines 27, the fairings and plug preferably being hollow and in communication with each other and the atmosphere to prevent the formation of a low-pressure drag-creating region behind the plug 14.
