PURPOSE:To synthesize diamond with high safety by filling a carbonaceous material into a groove in a holder, setting a heavy metal plate on the front side of the holder, irradiating the front side of the plate with intense pulsating beams and applying abrasion pressure to the carbonaceous material. CONSTITUTION:A groove 511 having a V-shaped cross section is cut in one side of a stainless steel holder 51, a carbonaceous material such as graphite B is filled into the groove 511 and a lead plate 52 is set on the front side of the holder 51 to form a diamond synthesizing part 5. High voltage is impressed on a diode 4 for generating intense pulsating ion beams and the front side of the plate 52 of the diamond synthesizing part 5 is irradiated with ion beams A generated according to the impressed voltage to generate high density hot plasma. At the time when this plasma spouts into space, ultrahigh abrasion pressure is produced at the rear side of the plate 52 to compress the graphite B. This graphite B is converted into diamond by making the abrasion pressure sufficiently high. |
