PURPOSE:To prevent ground staining and toner scattering and to realize stable image density and gradational reproduction by detecting the sticking toner amounts of at least two kinds of toner image patterns which differ in toner density optically and varying and controlling the supplementary amount of toner to a developer and the dynamic range of an electrostatic latent image in combination according to the detection signal. CONSTITUTION:At least two kinds of toner image patterns which differ in toner density are formed on a photosensitive body 14, an optical sensor 24 detects the sticking toner amount of those toner image patterns optically, and the supplementary amount of toner to the developer and the dynamic range of the electrostatic latent image are varied and controlled in combination according to the detection signal of the optical sensor 24. Therefore, development characteristics can be corrected into a proper range and a development quantity is controlled to an invariably specific value as to both the toner image patterns. Consequently, the ground staining and toner scattering are precluded and the stable image density and gradational reproduction are realized. |
