摘要 The liquid flow path through a partition or partitions in a separator for removing light liquid contamination from waste water consists of a large number of perforations which are suitable for the passage of the solid particles contained in the water, and are distributed over the width of the partition. These perforations may have a minimum diameter of 10 mm or preferably 30 mm, and may be evenly distributed over at least a part of the height as well as the width of the partition. The perforations are in the form of horizontal slots having a preferred length of 140 to 160 mm. and make up at least two thirds of the width of the partition. The area of the slots occupies preferably 4 to 6% of the surface area of the partition. The partition may be centrally located in the separator or may be nearer the inlet connection than the outlet connection. Two partitions may be used, both being in the half of the separator nearest the inlet. USE/ADVANTAGE - This invention is used in the design of separators for removing light liquids (e.g. oils) from waste water by gravity. The oil is allowed to rise to the surface of the liquid while the water is drawn off via a submerged outlet pipe (52). The proposed design improves the performance of the separator by distributing the flow of liquid evenly across the width and depth of the separator vessel and by reducing fluctuations in the liquid flow velocity.
