A wound dressing which comprises a reverse side layer, which is preferably made of a semipermeable material, and a wound-contact cushion. The wound-contact cushion comprises a mixed salt alginate, preferably in the form of fibres, which possesses a first and a second cation. The first cation, which can be calcined, is able to form an insoluble alginate salt, and the second cation (which can be sodium) is able to form a soluble alginate solvent. The equivalent ratio between the first and the second cation is from 40:60 to 90:10 and is preferably approx. 80:20. Such wound dressing can be used when treating wounds, since the mixed salt alginate is particularly effective in combination with a reverse side layer.
