<p>A disposable intra-luminal ultrasonic instrument (1') for the examination and/or treatment of blood vessels and similar lumina has a small transverse cross-section. The instrument includes a catheter (1) comprising a proximal body and a distal tip (2') adapted to be introduced into a lumen. The catheter has a diameter no greater than 3 millimeters, a rotatable member (5) in the tip, a small motor (3) in the tip (2') for rotating the rotatable member (5) at a selected rpm, and means (7) for generating and supplying sound waves to the rotatable member (5) at a frequency no greater than 60 megahertz.</p> |
