PURPOSE:To obtain the title fiber having excellent heat resistance, strength and electroconductivity by equipping the surface of ceramic whisker with a titanium nitride layer. CONSTITUTION:The surface of ceramic whisker, especially oxide ceramics (e.g. aluminum whisker) as heat-resistant whisker, is coated with titanium oxide formed by treatment with an aqueous solution of titanium compound such as Ti(OR4) (R is alkyl or alkylcarbonyl) and then the ceramic whisker coated with titanium oxide is heat-treated in an ammonia gas atmosphere and a titanium nitride layer is formed to readily give ceramic fiber having excellent reinforcing effects, surface smoothness and high electroconductivity. |
